Breakfast Blends and Assam Tea

Breakfast Assam Tea

“Breakfast tea” is a term that spelled royalty. As if, all the tea that went into its making were dressed in special flavor, texture, color, and aroma- robust and elegant, to be poured into the antique ceramics of the English elites. Breakfast blends, despite being argued of having their roots in Scotland, were profusely used and swelled in popularity from the land of the English.

What are Breakfast Blends?

That one shot of good caffeine that jolts you right out of your sleepy demeanour was probably the idea behind breakfast blends. However, Breakfast Blends are no longer had with breakfast alone. English breakfast blends, which are very popular, have been around since 1843. Blends of black teas with bold flavourings from different regions is what breakfast blends are made out of. Assam tea is usually used for breakfast blends for its strong, malty flavour and a high caffeine content with teas from Sri Lanka, China, Kenya, and Malawi to complete the blend. There is no one recipe for making a breakfast blend. It is a combination of tradition, and creativity that has been put to use for a long period. The English Breakfast Blend is preferred with a shot of milk or glob of cream. It goes perfectly with a sumptuous English Breakfast.

Why Blends?

Blends are usually preferred by the tea-making conglomerates to maintain the consistency of taste and flavour that gives their brand its uniqueness. Unblended teas, on the other hand, can differ in taste based on climatic conditions or other factors. It is paramount for the tea companies selling blends to maintain their legacy of taste, texture and flavour.

Types of Breakfast Blends

There are several types of breakfast blends trending in the market today. English and Irish Breakfast blends have been around for generations. Irish Breakfast Blend is more inclined towards Assam Tea with smaller proportions of Ceylon (from Sri Lanka) or Kenyan Tea. English Breakfast Tea was originally made of black tea from China. Now it is more a blend of Ceylon and Assam Black Tea. Apart from these, there is also the Scottish Breakfast Blend which is a blend of Darjeeling Tea, with its unique flavoring. We also have Canadian Breakfast teas and Australian Breakfast teas that have more recently joined the markets by creating their own blends.

Assam Tea in Breakfast Blends

We might not even be aware that we might be drinking Assam Tea under another label, as it forms an intrinsic base of several blends. Almost all kinds of Breakfast Blends have Assam black tea as its dominant ingredient, as it gives the tea its dark, bold flavor. Organic Assam Black Tea is produced in a number of Assam tea gardens and has become a major base for several blends. Next time you buy yourself your favorite breakfast blend, you will know that it is carrying the flavours of the Assam terroir with it.
